The New SteelTech Dunnage Pad System Is A Game-Changer
The concentrated pressures from small outrigger floats make it challenging for concrete pump operators to build dunnage platforms that safely distribute outrigger loads.
That’s why, we are excited to showcase our new SteelTech Dunnage Pad System, a patent-pending interlocking dunnage system specifically designed for concrete pump truck operators to move, assemble, and store by hand.
“Concrete pump operators are often working alone in situations where risk levels are high,” says Kris Koberg, our CEO. “With SteelTech, our goal was to develop a system that provides the needed stability, load distribution, and overall performance operators need, without requiring additional equipment or manpower to set up.”
How it Works – Features and Benefits
The SteelTech Dunnage Pad System combines the unique properties of steel and DICA’s engineered thermoplastic pads to create a patented solution with incredible performance.
Operators assemble the system in three layers:
- Three SafetyTech Outrigger base pads with machined grooves for the base layer
- Four steel tubes make the middle layer, engineered to reduce weight and maximize load distribution.
- A final SafetyTech pad with an integrated steel plate and recessed radius then gets placed as the top layer and locks into the steel tubes below.
We engineered each of these components to function together to reduce ground-bearing pressures to acceptable levels. The machined grooves in base pads hold the steel tubes in place, and the top pad locks together with the steel tubes using pins to further prevent movement. Working in unison, the pads and tubes create a portable, long-lasting, and efficient product optimized for everyday use.
Unlike wooden dunnage, the SteelTech materials will never warp, rot, splinter, deteriorate, or waterlog. The pads are also resistant to chemicals, bacteria, and other contaminants that can travel between job sites.
SteelTech is available in two sizes and is designed for outrigger floats up to 18 inches in diameter. The smaller 13.5 square-foot system has a rated capacity of 60,000 lbs. and is designed for concrete pumps trucks up to 49 meters. The larger 18.3 square foot system is rated for 110,000 lbs. and pump trucks up to 70 meters.
