Two Important Reminders About Using Web Slings
A recent video post from Mazzella Companies, Nate Fisher examines different web sling configurations and some of the common nomenclatures used to describe the different slings. Nate reminds users of two essential items when using web slings for lifting.
- No tag. No use.” According to ASME B30.9, all slings must have tags identifying their capacity. If your sling tag is not legible or the tag is missing, you must not use it.
2.“Flat web slings can be great, strong slings to help you get your job done, but you have to protect them from tears, cuts, holes, and nicks,” he says.
DICA’s patented and easy to use LiftGuard Magnetic Sling Protectors can be used with all sling types, including web slings, round slings, wire rope slings, chain slings, and chain mesh slings. Sling protection is a step that should not be skipped, as sling failure due to sling damage is the primary contributor to sling-related accidents.
In addition to protecting the slings, LiftGuard protectors hold slings away from load edges and other significant contact points, thereby preventing any damage to the load from the slings. LiftGuard protectors can be used with just about any load. The critical requirement is 100% contact between the LiftGuard’s contact surface and the load.
All standard models have magnets installed to make the placement simple, safe, and efficient. Once in place, the sling protectors stay where you want them. Velcro® straps are an optional accessory to help ensure slings stay in place.
