New Frame for FiberMax Crane Pads Further Cuts Weight and Transportation Costs
December 8, 2015 (Guthrie Center, Iowa) DICA announces that its revolutionary, high-performance FiberMax® crane pads have been improved using a new lighter weight frame design. The new frame reduces the total weight of the pads by more than 10 percent, while maintaining the frame strength and protection needed in construction applications.
The new lighter weight frames was officially introduced to the crane rental industry at the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association’s Crane & Rigging Workshop, Sept. 23-25, 2015 in Denver, Colo.
FiberMax crane pads feature DICA’s patent-pending bi-directional internal I-beam design to distribute concentrated loads over large areas to safely reduce ground bearing pressure. FiberMax delivers exceptional strength and rigidity for mobile cranes with lifting capacities up to and exceeding 600 tons.
“FiberMax crane pads can deliver significant transportation savings compared to steel or wood crane pads. Steel crane pads typically weigh more than twice what FiberMax pads weigh. By significantly reducing crane pad weight customers save hundreds to thousands of dollars per job by eliminating the need for an additional truck and all the related transportation costs,” said Kris Koberg, CEO. “Meeting both of these requirements delivers the short and long term savings that radically improves a user’s bottom line.”
The new FiberMax® lightweight frame is being produced for three standard 10 in. thick models; FM8x5x10, FM9x6x10 and FM9x7x10. Weight reduction from 170 to 220 pounds per pad was achieved with the new design.
The three 10 in. thick models, are designed for cranes generally rated from 200- to 400-ton capacity, and provide a load distribution area from 40 sq. ft. to 63 sq. ft., and crush ratings of 1,000 psi. The new individual crane pad weights are:
- FiberMax 8’x5’x10” (1,280 lbs. ea.)
- FiberMax 9’x6’x10” (1,670 lbs. ea.)
- FiberMax 9’x7’x10” (1,900 lbs. ea.)
