2015 Power-Gen Press Release
DICA offers Safe Equipment Setup Solutions for Material Handling in Critical Power Plant Applications
Dec. 7, 2015 (Guthrie Center, Iowa) Safe crane setup is essential for work conducted in power plants. Many material handling activities in power plants can be categorized as critical lifting because of the nature of the environment and its impact on safety (ASME P30.1-2014). SafetyTech® outrigger pads and FiberMax® crane pads from DICA provide engineered foundational solutions for today’s demanding working conditions that are safe, lightweight, incredibly strong, and provide a lifetime of safe setup benefits.
DICA Outrigger Pads will display both products at Booth #10415 during POWER-GEN International, Dec. 8-10, 2015, in Las Vegas.
Worry Free Ground Support with SafetyTech® Outrigger Pads
SafetyTech outrigger pads provide safe, lightweight foundational support for a wide variety of outrigger-enabled equipment including cranes with a lifting capacity up to 100 tons. SafetyTech outrigger pads are constructed of incredibly strong engineered thermoplastic material that has the strength to support loads exceeding 300,000 lbs. SafetyTech outrigger pads deliver an engineered, safe solution that equipment owners can trust to keep equipment upright and level, and ergonomics to protect their operators from injuries over a lifetime of use.
Guaranteed to be unbreakable, SafetyTech outrigger pads come with a lifetime warranty. They are impervious to water, hydraulic fluid, and road chemicals; and feature important ergonomic features such as patented and patent-pending TuffGrip® handles, round edges and corners and industrial grade safety texturing.
“Performing a cost benefit analysis is essential when specifying any equipment. It is human nature to gravitate toward a lower cost product, which often does not result in the lowest ‘life cost.’ We have looked at different outrigger pads over the years and DICA products come out on top for most applications,” said Mike Mosher, President of MyFleetDept.com, a comprehensive fleet management service provider based in Canandaigua, N.Y. “If a proper cost benefit analysis is completed, including longevity, functionality and safety considerations, the lifetime pad that DICA produces is a no-brainer,” said Mosher.
Radical Weight Savings for FiberMax® Crane Pads
FiberMax® Mega Duty crane pads from DICA have been enhanced with a new, even lighter weight steel frame design that further reduces the total weight of the pads by more than 10 percent over the previous steel frame. This revolutionary enhancement widens the weight savings gap between traditional steel crane pads and DICA’s FiberMax crane pads. Traditional steel mats providing 80 ft2 of area typically weigh up to 7,000 lbs. each, or 28,000 lbs. for a set of four pads. DICA’s radical 10.5’x7.5’x1’ Mega Duty pad tips the scales at only 2,590 lbs. each, or just over 10,000 lbs. for a set of 4. This weight reduction of nearly 18,000 lbs. is more than a 60% reduction in weight, and delivers similar load distribution performance, potentially saving the user thousands of transportation dollars each year of use.
Mega Duty crane pads are engineered using DICA’s patent-pending bi-directional internal I-beam design that distributes concentrated, heavy loads over large areas to safely and effectively reduce ground bearing pressure. FiberMax crane pads deliver exceptional strength and rigidity for mobile cranes with lifting capacities up to and exceeding 600 tons.
“FiberMax crane pads can deliver significant transportation savings compared to steel or wood crane pads and mats. Steel crane pads, and many wood mats typically weigh more than double what FiberMax pads weigh. By significantly reducing crane pad weight customers save hundreds to thousands of dollars per job by eliminating the need for an additional truck and all the related transportation costs,” said Kris Koberg, CEO. “Providing a lightweight engineered crane pad, with outstanding overall performance, delivers both short- and long-term savings that radically improves a user’s bottom line.”
The new FiberMax® lightweight frame is being produced for three standard 10 in. thick models; FM8x5x10, FM9x6x10 and FM9x7x10 and our 10.5’ x 7.5’, 12” thick model.
